When it comes to hairstyles, simple and popular don’t mean boring! Today, we’ll talk about one of the simplest braids you could possibly get, and you’ll see this hairstyle still offers plenty of possibilities for displaying creativity and having fun with your hair. 

The two braids are also called pigtails or twin tails. They are also called boxer braids since this hairstyle is the usual choice for women who practice this sport. It’s a versatile way of styling your hair that according to its many different variants goes well on different occasions, such as working out, going to the office, or going on a date. 

Some things you should consider before opting for a two-braid hairstyle, it’s easier to braid the hair after a couple of days of not washing it instead of braiding recently washed hair. Also, if your hair is curly or wavy the braids will last longer than with straight hair, although you can always apply hairspray and protect your hair when you sleep with a silk scarf to make your braids last longer. The African protective braids are the ones that last more time.

The basic two braids

Two braids are basically one braid on each side of the head. Believe it or not, two braids require a great amount of skill to be perfectly created! Sure, anyone can attempt to braid two piggy tails on their own hair but they won’t last or protect your hair as a professional hairstyle does.

One of the most important factors that make the hairstyle neat and lasting is hair division. When you go for a classic look, the division line of the hair goes right in the middle of the head. It starts at the front of the head—basically in the middle of your forehead—and it goes straight to the back of your head, ending in the middle of your neck aligned with your spine.

As a braider, I always aim to have the division line perfectly in the middle. Trust me: It’s not as easy as it may seem! It took me months to get this technique right. Especially because each person’s hair and scalp behave completely differently.

Different line divisions and hair parting

You can add a more unique touch to two braids if you get creative with the line divisions. For example, instead of using a straight line, you can get a zig-zag line or a curvy line. Although we said that typically when dividing two braids the division line goes in the middle of the head, that is not necessarily always the case. 

You can transform your hairstyle entirely by tweaking the hair parting, and this decision has its effects on the final result of the hairstyle. According to your facial features, you can choose the one that better suits you. A classic middle part accentuates a long face while side parts elongate the face. Hairstyles with middle parts show less hairline, which is great to hide possible imperfections. Besides, it gives you a youthful, trendy look.

A side part is taken from the side of the head. It is a great hairstyle because it can soften asymmetrical facial features. Also, it adds a unique style to your braids by adding volume and height, which is great if you don’t have lots of hair. People with round, square, or heart-shaped faces find that this style softens their features, creating an illusion of a more slim, symmetrical face. It’s also great for accentuating features such as cheekbones or eyes. However, it doesn’t look good on everyone. If you have always used your hair with a middle part, it may take a while to get a side part right.

There are many options on how to display the tail of the braid. For example, you can have the braids hanging, put them into a bun, and combine them into one braid.

You can also stop the braid where the hairline stops by adding a hair band and have the ends loose and curly. 

The length of the tail will depend on how long is your hair. However, you can always opt for braids with extensions if you wish for a romantic, ethereal look and your hair is short.

Braids placement and designs

Another choice for the hairstyle is the placement of the braids. You can have the braids in the middle, closer to the ears, or closer to one another. As for designs, there are many possibilities! Some of the most requested in Sunny Braids is the Puerto Rican flag or the triangle designs, but the sky is the limit! 

How long does this hairstyle take?

Being a simple hairstyle, a two-braid hairdo doesn’t take too much time for a professional braider. It’s up to your hair length: I usually take around 20 to 30 minutes if I braid your natural hair or between 30 and 45 minutes when I need to apply extensions. But the time also depends on other factors, such as your current hair conditions, and if I have to dry it or stretch it before braiding it.

Cuando se trata de peinados, ¡que un estilo sea simple y popular no significa que sea aburrido! Hoy hablaremos acerca de las trenzas más sencillas que podrías hacerte y verás que este peinado aún ofrece muchas posibilidades para desplegar tu creatividad y divertirte con tu cabello.

Las dos trenzas también se llaman coletas. También se las conoce como trenzas de boxeadora, o trenzas boxeaoras, ya que son el estilo más elegido por chicas que practican este deporte. Es una forma versátil de peinar tu cabello que, según sus diferentes variantes, luce bien en diferentes ocasiones, como hacer ejercicio, ir a la oficina o tener una cita.

Hay algunas cosas a tener en cuenta antes de optar por un peinado de dos trenzas. Primero, es más fácil trenzar el cabello después de un par de días sin lavarlo en lugar de hacerlo con el cabello recién lavado. Además, si tu pelo es rizado u ondulado las trenzas durarán más que con el pelo lacio, aunque siempre puedes aplicar laca y proteger tu pelo cuando duermes con un pañuelo de seda para que tus trenzas duren más. Las dos trenzas básicas

Dos trenzas son básicamente una trenza a cada lado de la cabeza. Lo creas o no, ¡este peinado requiere de bastante habilidad para crearse perfectamente! Claro, cualquiera puede intentar trenzar dos coletas en su propio cabello, pero no durarán ni protegerán su cabello como lo hace un peinado profesional.

Uno de los factores más importantes que hacen que el peinado sea prolijo y duradero es la división del cabello, más conocida como la “raya”. Cuando buscas un look clásico, la raya del cabello va justo en medio de la cabeza. Comienza en la parte delantera, básicamente en el medio de la frente, y va directo a la parte posterior de la cabeza, terminando en el medio del cuello alineado con la columna vertebral.

Como trenzadora, siempre intento tener la raya perfectamente en el medio. Créeme: ¡no es tan fácil como parece! Me tomó meses acertar con esta técnica. Sobre todo porque el cabello y el cuero cabelludo de cada persona se comportan de manera completamente diferente.

Diferentes divisiones de línea y separación del cabello

Puedes agregar un toque único a dos trenzas si exploras diferentes divisiones. Por ejemplo, en lugar de usar una raya recta, puede obtener una línea en zigzag o una línea con curvas. Aunque dijimos que, por lo general, al dividir dos trenzas, la raya del pelo va en el medio de la cabeza, no necesariamente siempre es así.

Puedes transformar tu peinado por completo ajustando la raya del cabello, y esta decisión tiene sus efectos en el resultado final del peinado. Según tus características faciales, puedes elegir el que mejor se adapte a ti. Una clásica raya al medio que acentúa un rostro alargado mientras que las rayas laterales alargan el rostro. Los peinados con raya al medio muestran menos línea del cabello, lo cual es genial para disimular posibles imperfecciones del mismo. Además, te da un look juvenil y moderno.

La raya al costado parte del costado de la cabeza. Es un gran peinado porque puede suavizar las características faciales asimétricas. Además, agrega un estilo único a tus trenzas al sumar volumen y altura, lo cual es excelente si no tienes mucho cabello. Las personas con rostros redondos, cuadrados o en forma de corazón descubren que este estilo suaviza sus rasgos, creando la ilusión de un rostro más delgado y simétrico. También es genial para acentuar rasgos como los pómulos o los ojos. Sin embargo, no le queda bien a todo el mundo. Si siempre has usado tu cabello con una raya al medio, puede llevar un tiempo lograr que la raya al costado quede bien.

La parte suelta de la trenza (cola)

Hay muchas opciones sobre cómo mostrar la cola de la trenza. Por ejemplo, puedes hacer que las trenzas cuelguen, ponerlas en un moño y combinarlas en una sola trenza.

También puede detener la trenza donde termina la línea del cabello agregando una banda para el cabello y tener las puntas sueltas y rizadas.

El largo de la cola dependerá de qué tan largo sea tu cabello. Sin embargo, siempre puedes optar por trenzas con extensiones si deseas un look etéreo y romántico, y tu cabello es corto.

Ubicación y diseños de trenzas

Otra opción para el peinado es la ubicación de las trenzas. Puedes tener las trenzas en el medio, más cerca de las orejas o más cerca unas de otras. En cuanto a diseños, ¡hay muchas posibilidades! ¿Cuánto tiempo lleva hacer este peinado?

Al ser un estilo más bien simple, las dos trenzas no suelen llevarle demasiado tiempo al trenzador profesional. Dependiendo del largo de tu cabello, suelo tomarme entre 20 o 30 minutos si se trata de trenzado de cabello natural, o entre 30 y 45 minutos si hay que aplicar extensiones. Pero el tiempo también depende de otros factores, tales como el estado de tu pelo, si hay que secarlo o estirarlo antes de trenzarlo.
